Diary of a Wimpy Kid 6: Cabin Fever

Amazon Exclusive: A Q&A with Jeff Kinney

Question: Given all the jobs that you have--game designer, fatherhood, Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie work, etc.,--do you have a certain time that you set aside to write?

Kinney: I still treat writing like a hobby, working mostly at night and sometimes on weekends. But when a deadline looms my hobby time gets extended into the wee hours of the night. It's not uncommon for me to work until 4:00 a.m., and I'm usually back at work by 9:00 a.m.

Q: Did you get to choose which character you would play in the Wimpy Kid films (Mr. Hills)? What do you enjoy most about working on the movies?

Kinney: I never any real desire to appear in the Wimpy Kid films, but one day my wife encouraged me to be an extra in one of the crowd scenes. So I walked onto the set, ready to ask the assistant director to put me somewhere in the back. It happened that right at that moment the director was looking for someone to play the role of Mr. Hills, Holly Hills's father. What I didn't realize was that I'd be front and center in the church scene, and in the new movie, I'm even more prominent. I'm incredibly self-conscious so appearing on-camera was a real stretch for me.

Q: In 2009 Time magazine named you as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World--whatâ??s the first thing you did after you found out?

Kinney: I thought it was a practical joke, so I tried to track down the source of the joke. I eventually reached a voicemail of a reporter who said they worked for Time, and at that point I thought it was just a well-planned practical joke. It took me a while to realize it was for real. It was a big honor, but I don't take it very seriously. I'm the fourth most influential person in my own house.

Q: Would you ever consider making Wimpy Kid into a newspaper comic strip or creating another one? Do you have any favorite comic strips that you currently read?

Kinney: I've considered it. I set out to become a newspaper cartoonist but failed to break in. But I like the freedom books give me, so it would be tough to cram my ideas into three or four panels.

Q: What is (or could be) you motto in life?

Kinney: I was inspired to write by a Benjamin Franklin quote: "Well done is better than well said." But I always encourage kids to "create something great," because the tools to create something original and find an audience are available to them like never before.

Q: What was your favorite year in school, and why?

Kinney: Fifth grade was my favorite year. I had a great teacher, Mrs. Norton, who encouraged me to be funny and challenged me to be a better artist and joke-teller than I was. I liked it that she didn't coddle me.

Q: Kids now ask for a book that is â??like Diary of a Wimpy Kid,â? and with this series youâ??ve created a whole new subset of books for young readers--how does it feel to be the person behind such massive book enjoyment, reaching reluctant readers, and spawning any number of titles that aspire to be â??the next Wimpy Kid?â?

Kinney: I'm happy that kids are reading. I think graphical books reach kids who might otherwise see books as work. Books should be fun!

The Meguiar's Classic Wash and Wax Kit is an essential 8-piece collection of quality Meguiar's products that will help you keep your vehicle looking clean and shiny for less cash. Buying the Classic Wash and Wax Kit lets you take advantage of big savings compared with the cost of purchasing each item separately. In addition to the cleaning products, this kit also includes a sponge, microfiber towel, and foam applicator pad.

Nearly everything you need to clean your vehicle's exterior, interior, and wheels at an affordable cost. View larger.

This top-to-bottom, inside-out kit includes:

Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner

Before you clean your interior and exterior, grab a bottle of specially formulated Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner to remove grime, grit, and brake dust from all factory wheel surfaces. Equipped with this 24-ounce spray bottle and Hot Rims' unique foaming agents, you'll have the cleaning power to remove stubborn road residue. Meguiar's Xtreme Cling foam is designed to cling to vertical surfaces and break down stubborn dirt and grime between your wheels -- just lather up your wheels with the included sponge and rinse away the suds for a clean, fresh look. This product is safe for all factory, clear-coated, and painted wheels, and will help restore the beauty of your vehicle.

Soft Wash Gel Car Wash

This 16-ounce bottle of gel car wash is super rich, super thick, and super concentrated. Soft Wash Gel combines sudsing agents with optical brighteners to gently wash away dirt, grime, bird droppings, and more, while enhancing the brilliance and gloss of your paint finish. And since the detergent-free, pH-balanced formula is guaranteed safe -- even with frequent washings -- it won't strip wax protection or deteriorate your finish. This gel wash can be used with any of Meguiar's wash accessories, such as the handy sponge included with this kit, and for the best possible shine, make sure you dry your vehicle with Meguiar microfiber towels.

Cleaner Wax Liquid

The Meguiar's Cleaner Wax liquid is 16 ounces of versatile, one-step wax that is specially formulated to produce eye-dazzling results on all finishes. Once you have shampooed your car clean with the Soft Wash Gel Car Wash, be sure to follow up with this wax. Loaded with rich conditioning oils and a gentle cleaning action, the Meguiar's Cleaner Wax Liquid is an excellent choice for daily drivers exposed to the elements. For best results, use the included foam pad to apply the Cleaner Wax and the microfiber towel for removal.

Make the inside of your car look as shiny as the outside with the included Quick Interior Detailer.
Quik Detailer

Once your car is cleaned and waxed, you'll want to maintain the appearance and prolong all your hard work. Meguiar's Quik Detailer is just what you're looking for to keep a waxed car looking "just waxed." This product is the missing link between washing and waxing, and is formulated to remove harmful contaminants before they damage your finish. Use Quik Detailer right after your car is sprayed by a water sprinkler, hit by a bird dropping, or exposed to any other condition that ruins your just-waxed shine. And this cleaner is a breeze to use; simply spray on to the effected area and wipe dry with the included microfiber towel to revitalize your car's waxed appearance. The safe, high-lubricity formula lifts off dirt and grime without scratching, and helps enhance the gloss of your finish without unwanted build-up.

The Cleaner Wax Liquid is specially formulated to produce eye-dazzling results.
Quik Interior Detailer

With a 16-ounce bottle of Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer in your hand, you're ready to make the inside of your car look as shiny as the outside. Use this fast-acting product every time you wash or Quik Detail your paint to give your interior that "just detailed" look. In no time flat you can have your entire interior looking sharp and smelling fresh. This product quickly and easily maintains the look and feel of interior plastics, vinyl, leather, rubber, metal, and even audio/visual equipment. The safe, high-lubricity formula lifts dust, ashes, dirt, grime, spills, and fingerprints without unwanted build-up. And, unlike traditional protectants that leave an artificial, greasy residue, Quik Interior Detailer leaves the inside of your car looking natural and revitalized. About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Eco-Friendly Christmas Gift Idea - Email Gift Cards

For environmentally conscious shoppers, Christmas can sometimes be a bit of a struggle - all that wrapping paper and packaging to throw away, not to mention the fact that either you or a delivery van are likely to be driving around and burning fossil fuels. Gift cards are a popular option, and they are certainly more eco-friendly than most presents, but what happens to that little plastic card once your balance is used up?

So what's a green solution for all the environmental woes associated with Christmas gift giving? Here's a suggestion: email gift cards. Want to know why they're really the best option for a "green" Christmas? Read on!

Shop at home: No need to drive out or pump out fumes while idling in traffic - there are lots of options to get your virtual gift card at the click of a mouse and in the comfort of your own home.
No waste: There's no need for wrapping paper, there's no packaging and no physical card to be shipped (and then discarded when it's used up)!
Ship shape: Since it doesn't need to be shipped, you also won't need to pay delivery charges to send out an e-gift card.
Point of no return: Your recipient will be choosing their own Christmas gift, so there's a lower likelihood that your gift will get returned - and therefore, less of a chance that someone will be driving around looking for a parking space at the mall! To be extra safe, choose one for a store with a wide variety of products, like a JCPenney e-Gift Card, so your recipient will have lots of options.

There are many online deals available to help you get gift cards for less for the 2010 holidays, so look out for deals like cash back rewards, mail-in rebates to save. Have a merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas: Now Start Writing!

The holiday season is coming quickly and the time to write your "seasonal" articles is now. Personally, I am against making Christmas something that I do not believe it should be: a blatant commercial sell. For me, Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. Yes, I know others celebrate Christmas differently or not at all and some celebrate the "sell" and not the "Savior." Ultimately, the Christmas season is a terrific time to create holiday themed articles that get noticed, so here are some suggestions on how you can get started:

Family Time: Starting with Thanksgiving and lasting all the way through New Year's Day is a time of the year that we call The Holiday Season. This nearly 40 day period is an enjoyable time for some, but a disaster for others. Much of how one perceives the season depends on how strong of a relationship a person has with his or her family. For some, Christmas evokes warm memories, while for others it can be a very painful time. Article suggestions: Home for the Holidays; Gift Giving Ideas; Family Holiday Traditions; My Secret Santa; Traveling Over the Holidays; Alone, But Not Lonely at Christmas; etc. In addition, articles centered on Thanksgiving or the New Year can also be birthed out of this theme. For example, "Thanksgiving Dinner Meal Planning" and "Resolutions I Will Never Keep" are two ideas.

Faith Time: Writing to an audience that celebrates Christmas primarily as the advent of Jesus Christ can be a great way to generate many topics of interest. Article suggestions: All About Advent; The Christmas Miracle; Christmas All Around The World; Favorite Christmas Hymns; Ministering to the Lonely at Christmas; The Mass of Christ; Christmas Caroling Adventures; A Very Dickens Christmas; etc. In addition, some topics can successfully blend the secular and faith aspects of the holiday which is how many people celebrate Christmas.

Work Time: Like it or not, the dreaded "holiday party" comes up for plenty of employees in December. You can have some fun with this theme too. Article suggestions: 7 Excuses That Work: How to Skip Your Office Party; Coping at Your Office Christmas Party; 12 Christmas Grab Bag Suggestions; Christmas Bonuses: Myth or Reality?; Working on Christmas Day [great for nurses and all those who must work on a major holiday]; The Dreaded Business Christmas Card; Office Christmas Trees: Paper or Plastic?; etc. One thought: a little humor can go a long way!

There are numerous Christmas and/or Holiday themed web sites on the internet that are content rich and always looking for fresh material. Write your articles now so that webmasters can plan accordingly on how they want their sites to look in the coming weeks.

If I haven't inspired you yet, pop in your favorite holiday themed video to get in the mood immediately. Nostalgia is a big pull and it tugs no harder than at Christmas time.

Holiday Gift Ideas on a Budget!

Christmas will soon be here - can you believe it? I am not quite sure where 2010 went! Shopping for Christmas presents can sometimes be quite a chore especially if you are on a tight budget. I thought that it would be helpful to share some budget-friendly holiday shopping tips with you so that you don't break the bank this holiday season.

Shop Daily Deals Sites. Sites like Groupon and Eversave offer one-day only deals at greatly discounted prices. They offer everything from gift cards and spa packages to restaurant and retail deals. In fact, I recently purchased a Groupon deal for a $40 gift card to the Body Shop for only $20! Another example of a recent Groupon purchase was a $50 gift card to Kansas City Steaks for only $25. This is going to make a very nice Christmas present.

Take advantage of Photo Offers. Do you have a hard-to-buy for person on your gift list this year? I find that photo gifts make the best presents! You can take a photo and turn it into anything from a photo mug to a canvas to a wall calendar. Photo gifts are the gifts that people will treasure for years to come. Check out photo sites like Picaboo, SeeHere and Kodak for special holiday offers. Many of these sites are offering free shipping, so that makes for a really sweet deal!

Shop online for great deals. I love to shop online whenever possible. Shopping online not only allows me to shop right from the convenience of my own home, but I also don't have to face the crowds at the mall! Many online sites are offering free shipping and other holiday promotional offers right now, so shopping from home in your pajamas is a lot of fun!

Shop Yard Sale and Consignment Stores for Great Finds. I have found many items at yard sales and consignment stores such as toys and other gifts that are brand new and still in the packaging. If you are really on a tight budget, this is a great way to find gently-used toys for your kids at a great price.

Make Gift Baskets with items from your Stockpile. Don't you just love practical gifts? I find that practical gifts are the most appreciated of all gifts. I love to put together my own themed gift baskets with items from my stockpile or with items that I find for inexpensive all year long. Here are a few of my favorite ideas:

Make a coffee or tea lover's gift basket with coffees, teas, coffee mugs and cute little packaged cookies.

Make a household gift basket with fancy cleaners, soaps, cute little towels and other inexpensive items. I find that this is an unexpected gift basket that anyone will love!

Make a pet lover's gift basket with cute little pet toys, treats and other pet items.

Make a spa gift basket filled with body wash, razors, lotions, candles and other inexpensive items.

Make your own homemade gifts. I love to prepare gifts in a jar such as cookie and soup mixes. Get a nice little gift bag and you have a great gift that everyone will love!

I hope that some of these ideas will help you out during this busy holiday season! May you and your family have a Very Merry Christmas!

Have Fun With Family Photo Christmas Cards

It seems that Christmas cards with family photographs are becoming more popular every year. Why shouldn't they be so popular? It is after all a great way to make your Holiday greetings a personal statement from you and yours. It is a chance for the family to display their individual personalities and it is a great way for family and friends who don't live nearby to see how much the kids have grown.

Start Early

The number one thing to remember is to get the process started early. You can't wait until December to try to get things rolling. October or even September is certainly not too early to get things underway. Of course I recommend you get a professional photograph taken. Nothing says "I really don't care" like a cheap family picture on a Christmas card. You can get discount rates for this type of thing with many professionals.

Create a Theme

Create a theme to provide continuity with the type of card you will be sending. Maybe you want a religious theme. Maybe you want a snow ski theme or maybe even a Christmas in Hawaii theme. The possibilities are endless and you can have a lot of fun with it. Here are some theme ideas to think about

Family photo with every one's tongue stuck to a metal pole Family members all wrapped up in Christmas gift boxes Santa outfits for everyone (including the pets) Every one dressed in snowman outfits A Grinch family Christmas Family Nativity scene Family dressed as Christmas Trees Family decorated like Christmas Trees

Maybe Just the kids

Let's face it everybody is busy. Maybe everyone in the family can't get together at the same time and the same place. One solution is to just have the kid's photos on the card. For a lot of people it's all about the kids anyway and it will give the kids a chance to pick a theme that maybe they could not pull off if their parents were in the picture.

Maybe Just the Pets

O.K. so the kids are busy too...or maybe they are just teenagers. Since our pets become real family members over time, maybe you just do a pet photo Christmas card. They have to do what you say anyway, and they won't complain about anything.

Get Costumes and Props

You will save money by getting your own costumes and props. But it is a lot of fun going to the local costume store and seeing the family dressed for the photo shoot for the very first time. A lot of time the most difficult part of the shoot is getting everyone to stop laughing at the same time. Of course the more back drops and professional look you give it the happier you will be with the result.

Create Continuity with the Card

When you start looking for a card to put you photo on, you will find there are a lot of options. Once it was the case that most people who sent Family photo Christmas cards chose the postcard type. However due to lowering prices of the folding type and the minimum order quantities dropping, more people are opting to go with folding cards. You will have to select according to your own preference and budget.

Of Course you will want to pick a card that blends well with your theme. Make sure the colors blend and especially the message. Continuity with the theme, colors, and message is the glue that pulls it all together and says, "We really put some thought into this, because we care about you."

Have Fun

Family Photo Christmas cards are all about having fun together for the entire family. What ever you decide remember to have fun with it. The recipients of those cards should look at the card and say, "Wow, they look like they were having a great time when this picture was made". What a great personal way to say Merry Christmas.

Find Christmas Cards for Businesses

It's the little things that make a person stand out from the crowd. If you are in business, you will want to know these details because it will give you an edge over your other competitors. One way to do this is by showing value to your client and sending them a beautiful business Christmas card this holiday season.

For most people, sending Christmas cards for businesses is a concept that they do not understand. They're thinking, Christmas is a season for family and good feelings-bringing business into it might taint the whole spirit of Christmas and nobody wants that, right?

The truth of the matter is Christmas IS a season where you celebrate giving and relationships-why wouldn't you include your business contacts in this? If you think about it, your clients are people like everybody else and keeping them in the "work" box is robbing the both of you the opportunity to create more value for each other. Business is, after all, building relationships and what better way to do this than by sending a business Christmas card to them.

Now, there are a few things you need to know about sending your client a business Christmas card and the first one is to know the recipient's religious beliefs. While most people celebrate Christmas, there might be a few people in your contact list who do not observe this particular holiday because of their custom or faith. It might be more appropriate to send them a card on New Year instead.

It will be easier if you can organize your client list together before starting so you have an idea on the number of cards that you are going to send out. Don't just type out a message because it will look impersonal and defeat your purpose. Block out a time in your schedule so you can write out your Christmas greeting in your own handwriting. Try to include something personal in each message that shows your client that you know what's going on in their lives and you value them. For example, "Dear John, Merry Christmas! I hope your dad is recuperating from his procedure co he can enjoy your wife's delicious apple pie soon enough. Have a wonderful time with your family this season!" A sincere message that shows you care will mean a lot to any person.

If you don't have that close relationship with your client yet, then do not make it too personal and risk offending them and embarrassing yourself. You can express gratitude for their business, look forward to a mutually beneficial partnership and wish them well. Find a balance between being professional and warm in your Christmas message to them.

More than anything, invest in the Christmas cards for businesses that you give out. Never scrimp on these cards by doing it yourself and using cheap materials for it. It will reflect poorly on your professionalism and compromise your business relationship with them. A simple and elegant Christmas card with an appropriate handwritten message will go a long way in building relationships and establishing your image.

Address your business card with the proper title like "Mr. John Smith" or "Miss Brenda Curtis". Do not use professional initials after their names. Use the appropriate title instead like "Dr. Lisa Hart" not "Lisa Hart M.D." If you know them personally, then it's OK to send the cards to their home address, otherwise, address holiday cards and gifts to their office. Include your mobile number and email address under your name and signature for clients who may want to contact you for new business.

Don't forget that Christmas is one of the busiest times in the year so mail out your Christmas business cards early, around December 15 is a good time to send them out. If your clients are located abroad, then send them out much earlier so it will reach them on time.

Find beautiful a Christmas business card to send to your clients and colleagues. These Christmas cards for businesses are made with excellent quality and exquisite designs that would impress anyone. Have a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic new year ahead!

How to Sell Handmade Christmas Cards

Christmas is probably the best holiday of the year. It is the season for festivities and gift-giving. It is the time for singing, eating, dancing, and merry-making. Bright and colorful lights twinkle all around you. The weather is also cool and relaxing. In addition, Christmas is the time when people exchange cards aside from presents. So, selling handmade Christmas cards or handmade holiday cards will not be a bad idea. In fact, handmade holiday cards will sell more during this time than any other time of the year. If you have no idea on how to start your handmade Christmas cards business, here are a few helpful tips:

- Produce handmade holiday cards that are made from recycled materials. You can use recycled papers, cardboards, and even ribbons. Numerous people prefer environment-friendly handmade Christmas cards because they want to help save Mother Earth. Moreover, it is better if you will prepare the handmade Christmas cards yourself. You will be able to save more money this way as compared to when you order handmade holiday cards from someone else. You can draw and glue pictures on the cards. Then, you can sprinkle some glitters and add some ribbons. You can also use your computer and printer if you want the cards to appear more well-defined.

- Set the prices of your handmade holiday cards according to the costs of materials you have used. Well, it does not necessarily mean that you have to sell your handmade Christmas cards with the exact price as your materials. You have to make sure that you will gain a profit, but you must also not charge too much. If you charge too much, your customers will be discouraged to buy handmade Christmas cards from you. On the other hand, if you sell too low, you will not make any profit. Then again, you also have to consider the time and effort that you have exerted in making such handmade holiday cards. If you set the right price, you will have plenty of customers.

- Utilize the Internet to sell your handmade holiday cards. You can sell through online stores, for instance. You just need to have an account with them, and you will be able to sell your handmade Christmas cards at very little costs. Some online stores charge fixed monthly fees to members while others charge a percentage for ever sale. For example, if you have sold ten handmade Christmas cards, ten percent of your total earnings will go to the online store that you are affiliated with. Then again, you can always set up your own website and sell your handmade holiday cards there. This will save you more money in the long run since you will not need to pay any fees.

Fishing Gifts and Last-Minute Ideas For People Who Don't Fish - But Need a Gift Idea

Selecting a fishing gift for anyone can be a challenging task, but this information will make your decision a little easier this holiday. A great gift will be one that hits close to home and is used, appreciated and enjoyed long it is given. Follow this article and you will have success this season with your fishing gift, even if you know nothing about the sport. The closer the store or organization is to your house, the better the gift will be.

1. Avoid National Stores

To that point, local is everything. Big box fishing stores and major retail stores lack local fishing gear and don't match local waters. Even if they are close to your house, drive past these for a greater gift. Local stores know local waters. Giant national stores have a central home office and order based on national averages with only slight regional differences. These stores are also influenced by national product manufacturers and advertisers so they will stock anything they are getting great deals on or those products with the most financial support. A gift card to one of these is not the best choice.

2. Fishing Lessons

This might play out in your house. Fishermen leaves on Saturday morning before sun-up. Wakes up the house while getting ready. Some fishermen are back very quickly stating - "they're not biting". Lessons will work for them too. In other cases, the fishermen is gone all day long. Fishermen returns at the end of day with no fish, fishing was slow. You think to yourself, that couldn't have been fun or we never have fish for dinner. I interrupt this paragraph to bring you this (Digression) I know. The running joke up in Door County, Wisconsin is that I have never brought back a fish meal in 20 years fishing there. I keep the myth alive with some catch -and-release these days - shhh don't tell. It's a vacation for me so I don't get up early there and I don't put that much effort into it. I rather enjoy the ridicule now as tradition there. (Back to the Lessons) For those of you who know anglers who have not returned with fish in years, you can get them some lessons. Local clubs like the Midwest Anglers & Chicago Fishing School offer educational seminars, on-water demos and individual lessons. Hit Google in your area for local clubs and purchase lessons for them. If you are near Chicago, you can purchase fishing lessons at Midwest Angler If you have a club, I encourage you to set up a school and teach fishing!

3. Fishing Club Membership

Not the national fishing club you see on trucks -that is just a bunch of ads - find your local fishing club and purchase your angler a membership or renew for them. In most cases, this is a $20 - $45 annual membership and a gift that will keep on giving! They sometimes have shirts or hats you can purchase along with the membership certificate. Be warned though, these are putzy old men, they might not have a very good "actual certificate" you can hand over as a gift. You might need to get out the computer or get a very nice card and hand make a certificate for presentation's sake.

4. Local Wise Men Stock the Myrrh

By Wise Men, I am referring to the local bait shop owners. These tackle gurus scratch out a living season to season for a reason. With much smaller shops and no advertising budget, they must stock the good stuff, the items that catch fish. What they lack in space, they make up for in years of stocking their shelves with items requested from their millions of angler-interactions. Your pond close to home is their expertise and the gear on the walls of Roy's Bait Hut - well, they match those waters perfectly. This can't be said for the miles of shelves at G Mart or One Fish Pro Shops... Head to your local store and a gift certificate from that place will be gold dust to the angler you are gifting. You might have to Google-it, "tackle shop" followed by your zip code will reward you with the location of your local store. Give them a call regarding gift certificates.

5. No Myrrh? Try Frankincense

Ok, I am getting a little goofy with the headlines. If they don't sell gift certificates, you need to get creative at your local shop. Go there and ask them to put together a "local pond/river" kit. Tell them your budget and use the local expert to assemble the best selection of products every assembled. While you don't know a Hula-Popper from Betty Crocker, you will come off looking like a fishing Martha Stewart when you deliver this gift. No one has to know you had help from the local tackle geniuses. The best fishing gifts are found in the bait stores.

6. Tacky Fishing Joke Gifts

This headline has no pun - you're welcome, but it might be just the gift you were looking for - a funny one. Sure there are online shops with catchy sayings (pun intended) screened on their shirts, mugs, hats. Nothing can match the tacky gifts that can be found at the real mccoy - the Bait Hut, and they know it. You will find some legit unsellable items hidden in the nooks and crannies of these gold mines. If humor is your goal, head to the minnow trough and take a left. Look up on the highest shelves and in the corners for the good stuff. Out-of-date trucker hats with typos, girls & fishing sayings, plaques - pirates don't have as much treasure as is buried in tiny tackle stores. Keep it to yourself as when you are shopping you don't want to tick off the purveyor of said store, prior to unearthing your treasure. Some owners - like Joe- at Joke'n Joe's, for example have no outward sense of humor. The perch might think they're funny but I've only seen him grumpy.

7. Fishing Magazines

In a pinch, a subscription or two to a national magazine can make a nice 12-month gift at a reasonable price. When calling these to order, you might check if they are already a subscriber and either try another magazine or renew their current membership. Great magazines to purchase include: Fishing Facts, In-Fisherman and American Angler.

Fishing Facts has nice articles and tackle reviews and is a great choice if you are on a budget for your gift! It sometimes comes with free tackle too. In-Fisherman will cost a little more but is packed with diagrams and graphic illustrations and is a great choice as well. American Angler is for the fly fisher who wants to study recreating bugs and fooling trout into biting. If the gift you are purchasing is for a fly fishermen, you know them to be a bit odd and into this - this is the way to go. I love fly fishermen - they are all a bit weird in a good way.

8. Super-Emergency Last Minute

Ok, this is where I save your bacon with the last-minute emergency gift. Even if you are a vegan or your religion prohibits eating pork, this will save more of your bacon. If you are a last-minute shopper, I guess I should have put this at the top of the article and not had these goofy intro sentences to slow you down. OK! Menard's, Lowe's, Home Depot. Find the nearest that is open late on the way to your gift-giving and there you will find the following: Tool/Tackle Storage, Small Clippers, Warm Hats, Baseball Caps and even fishing-related gifts. Last time I was in Menard's they had fishing bird-houses, a Christmas (or holiday) village with a bait store, light-up ice fishermen and more. In their paint section they have steel signs that are perfect for the shop, garage or fishing work bench.

When we go fishing, we usually have a favorite place to either pick up the sandwiches or to stop and get a hot meal on the way home. A gift card to one of these places will be a very welcome gift. If you have the energy, skill and ingredients, you can make us cookies, brownies or bars for fishing. Whether on the boat or on shore, home-made treats are always welcome. Someone on a bass show once described fishing 8 hours in a padded bass boat as a "marathon-like" effort. While I think the running might be more of a strain- battling the elements on shore or from boat in Spring & Fall can sap your energy. Your home-made treats might not keep long enough to get us outdoors, so you might need to give a certificate for that which we can redeem later. Then again, there's always Arby's.

I hope these gift suggestions help you out with your shopping on any holiday. Do have a very Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Wonderful Kwanza, or just celebrate and have a great New Year!

Green Gift Ideas For a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season

It's the thought that counts. At least that's what they say. So how about thinking enough of your loved ones, or even liked ones, to not send them an exquisitely packaged basket of preservatives and assorted toxic chemicals, typical of the majority of gift baskets? What better way to spread joy to the world than to send healthy gifts and preserve the planet in the process?

You can find premade economical and eco friendly gift baskets filled with everything from organic fruit and biodynamic wine to all natural handmade chocolates and organic coffee. Due to the growing popularity of custom gift baskets, many companies will even allow you to create your own. If you prefer to be even more hands-on, doing it yourself doesn't have to be time consuming. Don't be afraid to think outside of the green gift basket though. Opt for a reusable canvas bag or container, like a wooden or recycled glass bowl. Rummage through the garage for a decorative box you can repurpose.

You're limited only by your imagination. Your favorite gardener is bound to give you two green thumbs up for sending a few eco friendly tools and organic seeds packaged in a flower pot or compost bin. Try bundling items like organic pasta and sauce, or an organic cotton apron and bamboo cutting board in a clay pot for the organic chef in your family. Even herbal tea or hot chocolate in a pair of mugs, would warm anyone's heart as much as their body. Not only will every part of your gift be usable and reusable, but the thoughtfulness will help ensure a very Merry Green Christmas.

Spa gift baskets are another crowd pleaser, especially after the stress of the holidays and life in general. Just make sure that the all natural skin care products you choose are actually that. So many companies are capitalizing on the implications of buzz words like pure and plant-based. Certified organic, for example, means there only has to be 70% organic ingredients, and it does not mean chemical free. No harsh chemicals, doesn't necessarily mean no chemicals.

Non-toxic doesn't necessarily mean natural. Natural doesn't necessarily mean all-natural. A product can still contain synthetics and toxins. Made with natural ingredients does not have to mean made entirely of "natural" ingredients. All natural doesn't even have to mean what one would think of as all natural, because use of the phrase is not regulated. As a hard and fast rule, look for products where you can pronounce all of the ingredients and actually know what they are.

Scented candles are a popular stocking stuffer, but they can be as dangerous as a lump of coal. Unfortunately, the majority of conventional candles on the market actually stink, given that they're made of petroleum-based paraffin wax, artificial dyes, synthetic fragrances and have metal-cored wicks. Those made from renewable sources like soy, preferably non-GMO, beeswax, vegetable or palm wax, and use pure essential oils for fragrance are all excellent choices for a cleaner and longer burn. Other possibilities for those on your nice list can include all natural perfume, mineral makeup samples, conflict free diamond jewelry, organic cookies, and recycled paper journals.

Inevitably, there will be someone who was forgotten in the holiday shopping frenzy. They however don't have to know that they were overlooked. Paperless gifts like digital magazine subscriptions or downloadable audiobooks make very thoughtful last minute eco friendly gifts. There's so much talk of going green throughout the year. But clearly green gifts are the way to go, for Christmas, or any other occasion. That way when you sign the card (or email), sincerely, love, warmest regards, get well or thinking of you, it will be obvious that you actually mean it.

Easy Holiday Gift Ideas

Every holiday I get surprised with extras added to my gift list, whether it is the mailman or a school teacher, it's always nice to thank those who have helped you along the way every day of the year. Over the years I have come up with some great ideas on how to have those gifts around the house just for such an emergency or how to stretch a tight holiday budget.

One thing I like to do is when I see a clearance item on sale at a bath and body store I will purchase the kits then take them home and store them in either a closet or now a hope chest. You can find many wonderful trial bath products in beautiful gift bags under $3 once they are on clearance. I also look in the toy departments, I don't know how many times my sons have in the morning just before the bus comes tells me they need a present for school.

Here are a few other inexpensive gift ideas:

*Freebies- Are you in direct sales? Do you go to meetings and receive freebies (I get full size products won through raffles at my AVON meetings), or receive good quality freebies in the mail but it's just not for you? What about overstock items? Use those items to make up a small gift basket and add those freebies or trial size products to the basket, you never know you may receive a customer in the process.

*Gift jars- find a recipe that your friend/relative likes and buy all the dry ingredients for the recipe, layer them in a canning jar, on your computer make up a nice gift card filled with all the instructions for the recipe. Decorate the top of the gift jar with pretty fabric and ribbon and punch a hole in the recipe card and attach to the lid. Inexpensive! You can make several gift jars with one grocery trip for under $20 if you shop when there are sales.

*Coupon books- for the neighbors or your kids to make for grandparents. Use your handy clip art files and make out a coupon book filled with items you or your child is willing to do. Like cut the grass, 15 minutes helping out in the kitchen, no complaining, going to bed on time, retrieving the mail on a cold day etc.

*Soap making- It sounds harder than it really is. You can go to a craft store and buy a brick of glycerin clear soap for $6, look around your house for little additives to add to the glycerin soap. If you do not want to buy a scent look around your bedroom for a perfume that you can add to the soap as it is setting in the molds. I just used old fluted pie pans that were kid size for the ones I made this year and added some plastic flowers that I no longer used to decorate the house with. Scents are really inexpensive and they do last a long time, just be sure the person you are making the soap for is not allergic to any particular scent.

For Boys: add little plastic figures like frogs, cowboys, Indians, cars etc

For girls: add little ballerina objects to the soap as it is setting, or small shells from a trip that you made to the sea shore.

Just use your imagination and your soaps will be a hit!

*Tins filled with goodies: do you have a favorite cookie or treat recipe that everyone loves? Why not make up a couple batches and put them in a wonderful holiday tin, you can find these at Dollar stores sometimes for 2 for $1 or look around your house do you have any tins that you have been holding onto? Why Flowers Are a Great Gift Idea

Trying to find the perfect gift for someone can be a daunting task. There are so many variables involved in the gift giving equation that make it hard to know just what the perfect gift would be to give someone. You have to take into consideration a lot of different factors including the recipient's taste, the occasion, the type of relationship you have with the recipient, your personal budget for a gift, as well as the availability of certain types of gifts. With all of these variables, it's no wonder why flowers are making a comeback as the gift of choice for so many people.

First and foremost, flowers work well for any occasion. They are a great way to say happy birthday, congratulations, thank you, I'm sorry, Merry Christmas, Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Mother's Day, or happy anniversary. No matter what the cause or the reason for the gift, flowers will work well so you never have to worry about sending the wrong message because they are always appropriate.

Secondly, flowers make great public gestures. Probably the best part about receiving flowers is that not only do you know that you got them, but other people get to see that you got them as well. Think about it. Flowers are very rarely sent to someone's private residence. Most of the time they are delivered to the workplace, to a school, or somewhere else where there are sure to be other people around. Because of the public nature of sending flowers, there is an added effect of specialness and exclusivity when it comes to flowers.

Thirdly, flowers are a gift that most people rarely receive. Unlike money, gift cards, and other common gifts, most people almost never have flowers sent to them. Some people may have never had flowers sent to them. But even if someone has had tons of flowers sent to them over their lifetime, they will never tire of getting them.

Fourthly, flowers aren't that expensive and they fit into most people's budgets. You can get beautiful arrangements for as little at $19.99 from places like 1800 Flowers. Don't be confused, arrangements can get pretty pricey as you can spend as much as $150 on an arrangement, but if you don't have that kind of dough, it's really easy to find something in your price range.

Finally, flowers are beautiful, timeless, elegant, and classic. You can never go wrong with flowers because their beauty if so overwhelming. Flowers come in so many different colors, shapes, sizes and fragrances that one person will probably never receive the same kind of flowers twice. The can last a long time if cared for properly and are never a disappointment when it comes to looks.

So the next time you need to give a gift and aren't sure what to give, send the special someone a bouquet of flowers. Flowers will always send the right message and will always be a classy way to express your sentiments!

Sheila Dollarsby has sent flowers to a number of her co-workers, family member and friends and she frequently uses 1800 Flowers as her flower carrier. They are always on time and always have the most beautiful arrangements. 1800 Flowers was also the company that she used to send happy birthday flowers to her daughter when she turned 16.

A Homemade Christmas Card That They Will Cherish

The Christmas card is part of the folklore. If you are one of the crowd who send and receive them, you know how special it can be to receive a homemade Christmas card from a friend you haven't heard from. You put them up in treasured places in your home to think about those friends throughout the holiday season.

But we are busy people and it gets tricky and time consuming to find the time to get everything on the cards we send out. Yet there are some things you can do to give a personalized message to your treasured friends. Here are some ideas for you.

Family Christmas Cards - Print

This is a great way to provide a personal touch for your adored ones. Your recipients will relish this photo of you and your family for years to come.

You don't have to dress up and head to the trained photographer, either. You can simply send a candid shot that will show more of you than any professionally positioned one. Not only do photos provide a glance at what you have been up to, but they provide a lasting reminiscence that you are sharing.

You can easily make copies of many of your treasured photos and distribute them to anyone on your list.

Create A Collage

If you have some time, a collage can be a delightful way to use old cards that you have stashed away. Cut up the cards and reassemble them to create new ones. You can make beautiful patterns and, to finish these cards off, add photographs or even a bauble inside.

You can find a large enough envelope so that you can make them virtually any size or shape that you would like. These cards will stand out when you give them away. Let your imagination go and find a surprising way to use these old cards to bring more meaning to them.

Inside Counts In Addition

You should make sure that the inside of your card is just as personalized. You should tailor your dedication to the individual.

Write what you feel, not necessarily the usual Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Allow your sense of humor and character to come through.

Have your family work with you to make an even better card. It may take a little longer, but it is well worth it. Maybe you can even get a practice going when you send them out and next year you receive the same type of card back from your family and friends.

Instead of prancing through the department store this year looking at the large selection of canned Christmas cards that all seem to be the same, create something new and completely exclusive.

You can create and personalize a card without much energy or you can go all out. This is a great way to personalize an old tradition.

Last Minute Gift Ideas For Fussy Women

Short on last minute gift ideas?

Not every one is easy to buy Christmas presents for. There's always that one person who always seems disappointed with their gift, or nothing comes to mind when you need to choose something for them. When it's your wife or girlfriend you are shopping for it can be really stressful.

The problem is that the more difficult someone is to please, the longer we seem to leave it to buy their gift.

Suddenly there's no time and you are guaranteed to end up with the same old lame present anyway.

Time for that to end.

Here is my list of 5 last minute gift ideas that are guaranteed to satisfy fussy women.

Now, note I said satisfy. She may not gush or be thrilled, but the chances are you'd need the planets to be correctly aligned, the Three Fates appeased and the barometric pressure to be spot on before that could happen, so satisfy is all you need to aim for.

Balloon Ride:- Send her up in a hot air balloon. They'll take her away at dawn, ply her with champagne and other goodies and hoist her up towards the heavens. There's always a chance she'll come back again, but it's worth a try.

Of course, you may want to go with her. That's entirely up to you. You can download gift certificates online and have your gift in a card and in her hand within minutes. Can't get much more last minute than that!

Constant Chocolate:- There aren't many women that wouldn't be satisfied with a home delivery of gourmet chocolate once a month - in fact, it probably should be a national compulsory program. Join her up for a Chocolate of the Month Club. You can organize it all online and then just stay the hell out of the way.

Magazine Subscription:- Now, I know this probably sounds a little disappointing, but have you noticed how relaxed women get when they read a magazine? Trust me, this is one of the best Christmas gifts to fall back on if you haven't got much time. Don't scrimp, buy her a full year to something she really loves and is great quality.

Dinner:- A lot of restaurants will offer gift vouchers and if she's the type of person that enjoys eating out; this may be more successful than a set of soaps and a flannel.

With a voucher she'll be able to book her dinner for a night that suits her, invite whom ever she wants and it will be up to the restaurant to disappoint her not you. You can book vouchers online - see my website for ideas.

Lobster:- Yes, this isn't exactly Tiffany's, but lobster still has that ability to impress. It's gourmet, it's quality and it's usually expensive. Why not book her in for a delivery of quality crustaceans right to her door? Some people may think lobster makes for one of the more unusual Christmas gifts, and maybe it does.

But just think: no shopping, no bother, and she'll be able to brag about the delicious lobster dinner served in her own home. You can order this online and book a one off or more regular delivery - you'll know how many she'll need before she's happy.

Well, that's your last minute Christmas gifts list. They may not be in everyone's list of top ten Christmas gifts, but as far as get-out-of-trouble lists go, I think you'll find something there to help.

Have a Merry Christmas and best wishes for a healthy and prosperous New Year!
